Part Time Jobs Can Lead To A Full Time Business

As far back as December 2008, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has been reporting that involuntary part-time work is on the rise. Much of that has to do with corporate downsizing, which in turn has caused an increasingly high unemployment rate.

There's Proof

Statistics show that a whopping 12.7 million Americans were unemployed as of June 2012, with the number of unemployed rising in 11 states and Washington, DC over the month. Only 80,000 jobs were added nationwide for this period which makes for a significant downturn in the country's economic growth overall.

According to an article from the Associated Press published on AOL, that makes June the "the third straight month of weak job growth." Sadly, July looks to be following the same trend which some economists and financial experts say is even more important than the statistics themselves.

It's No Wonder...

With all this discouraging news in the job market, it's no wonder more and more people are searching for a way to start their own business from home. A home business gives you the freedom to work your own hours while at the same time giving you the opportunity to determine how much money you make.

Some Choices to Consider

One of the best, and most consistently successful methods for starting your own home business is by starting a part time job that can easily lead to a full time business when managed correctly. The key is in choosing the right part time work to convert to a full time business. Here are some potential jobs to consider.

Website Design

Web Design Could Be Your Choice

By its very nature, designing websites is a great business. You can work your own hours. You can set your own pay scale. You don't need a college degree. And prospective customers are available around every curve. But when you're starting out, with no portfolio or client testimonials, it's sometimes hard to get enough clients to make a profit. That's why working for others as a part-time, or in-house, website designer is ideal.

Working part time allows you to improve your website design skills while getting paid so it's great on-the-job training in a sense. And it brings in money you might not earn right away if you jump feet first into your own business. That's always a plus.

Finding a job as a part-time website designer is relatively easy. You can search Monster.com, Craigslist or other online job boards, as well as contacting employers in your own home town for possible openings. Starting out part time also allows you the time you need to build your own business and pick up new clients along the way.

Become a Paid Blogger

Blog and Get Paid

While many companies pay their bloggers on a contract basis per post, there are a growing number of businesses who hire bloggers as regular employees. Often, when they do, the blogger starts out part time since the job doesn't usually warrant a full time position.

For you, that means you can start a part-time job doing what you love, blogging, and getting paid for it. At the same time, you can use your spare hours and maybe even some contacts you make in your job to start your own business blogging for others as a ghostwriter, or writing a blog that pays for itself through advertising and paid posts.

Blogging is an increasingly popular way to make money, and it's an especially hot business idea right now. But like other small or home based business start-ups, it takes awhile to make enough money to justify quitting your day job. But a part time job as a paid blogger is perfect for converting to a full time business of your own over time.

Child Care

Child Care or Day Care

Day cares are almost as plentiful as churches, with one in every community, if not on every street corner. With that being the case, part-time jobs in day care are relatively available even when other jobs may not be. If caring for children is something you enjoy, you could turn that love for the little ones into your own full-time business pretty easily. But starting out in a part time day care job is a great way to build a solid reputation (which is crucial) and make some connections with parents.

Whether you choose to specialize in a specific age group or generalize by working as a part-time floater and moving from class to class, working in a day care provides a wealth of opportunity for learning your state's regulations as well as how to cook for a group, how to manage behavioral problems, and how to prepare lesson plans for your charges.

These skills can then be used to start your own full time day care business, whether in your home or at another location. And it's a great way to meet parents who may have friends who need child care but couldn't find an opening at a nearby facility.

Business Writing

Writing for A Business

Writers are in demand at nearly every type of business imaginable, and if you have the skills to write well, you can easily get paid as a part time writer for a company in your local area or online. A regular paid writing gig, whether it's for technical manuals, training classes, business correspondence, grants or newsletter articles, can help you improve your skills and enable you to turn your part time job into a full time business in no time.

Just write about what you know, or at the least, learn to research well. Doing so will ensure your skills shine through, and that in turn, will lead to more and more opportunities for paid writing jobs. Before you know it, you can be your own boss, set your own hours, and turn that writing job into a full fledged home based freelance writing business of your own.

These are only a few of the many part time jobs that can easily lead to a full time business of your own. And by starting your business with a paid job in the same field, you have the chance to decide if it's really something you want to do all day every day to earn your living. If not, it's a cinch to move on to another part time job until you find the one that fits you, your interests, and your goals. Then use that to build the life of your dreams in a home based business of your own.
